Learning Support
Pownall Hall School has a “whole school” approach to special needs. Class and subject teachers assess the pupils throughout the academic year, using standardised tests where appropriate. This, together with screening tests that take place in Form 1 and Form 4, enable us to identify children who may be experiencing difficulties.
These children are then closely monitored and Individual Education Plans are drawn up for them. Where appropriate, in-class support or individual lessons can be provided. There is regular contact between class teachers and the learning support Department, to discuss any concerns regarding specific pupils.
We believe in maximising all children’s potential, whatever their ability, and recognise that children who experience difficulties with learning often have low self-esteem. Our aim is to build confidence and self-belief, whilst developing strategies to aid learning.
Staff are always available to discuss any issues or concerns that you may have and will keep you informed , via reviews and reports of your child’s progress.
