In addition extra curricular activities and other courses are often arranged and are very popular. The school prepares and serves all meals onsite, ensuring a balanced and nutritious diet for all children.

Outdoor Activities

There is a long tradition at Pownall Hall School of using the outdoors to challenge the children and to enrich their all round education.

We regularly take the children out of school for varied activities. The proximity of the Peak District enables us to run day and residential trips relatively close to home. There are Geography and Science field trips to the Peak District for Forms 4 and 5 and there have been History field trips to Eyam. Other recent trips have included; a long walk along the Bollin Valley, trips to the Library Theatre in Manchester and a day at the Cheshire Show.

Younger children enjoy theatre trips and outings to local historical and educational locations such as Blue Planet Aquarium and Quarry Bank Mill. Other trips include visits to Stockley Farm and to Lower Moss Wood.

The children in Year 4 and above go on residential trips away. These include an overnight residential trip. The parents and children have the opportunity to go on challenging hill walks in the Lake District and North Wales and there are also skiing and French language trips to the Continent which are open to parents and pupils.

In Form 5 and 6 the children are able to sample a wide range of outdoor pursuits. This is an excellent way to build confidence and self reliance. Form 5 have a week in Peak District trying activities such as ; canoeing, raft building, climbing, caving, high ropes course, adventure course, team building and problem solving exercises and abseiling. In Form 6, once the pressure of exams has passed, the children have opportunities to try more outdoor activities like horse riding, mountain biking, sailing, kayaking, windsurfing and climbing Mount Snowdon.
