Pownall Hall
Small classes, individual attention, sound preparation and the happy but hardworking atmosphere for which Pownall Hall School is well known, all contribute to the excellent results achieved in entrance examinations. Indeed many children have obtained scholarships and awards to both Day Schools and Boarding Schools. The pace of learning is monitored by our experienced and well qualified teaching staff, and tailored to each childs needs - Pownall takes pride in its children and the high academic standards they achieve. At the appropriate time, considerable advice is offered to each parent on the choices of senior schools which are suitable for their children

Moving On

11 + Entrance examinations

Over the years, Pownall Hall School has fostered a strong and lasting relationship with the independent senior schools. Children who leave Pownall Hall School at the age of 11 have a choice to select their preferred school.  Our Year 6 pupils are regularly obtaining places at the following schools:

  • Alderley Edge School for Girls
  • Altrincham Grammar Schools
  • Cheadle Hulme School
  • King’s School, Macclesfield
  • Manchester Grammar School
  • Manchester High School
  • North Cestrian Grammar School
  • St. Ambrose College
  • Stockport Grammar School
  • The Grange, Northwich
  • William Hulme’s Grammar School
  • Withington Girls School

Preparing for the next stage

Our pupils enjoy embarking on a new stage in their learning after the independent schools examinations. They are helped to develop the capacity to work independently and undertake a range of tasks which will effectively prepare them to meet the challenge of their Senior School careers. Participation in the arts, sport and other interests is actively promoted.

A well planned activities programme introduces the children to a number of exciting outdoor activities such as cycling, abseiling and horse riding. Cultural visits to galleries such as The Lowry and a day of stimulating workshops and tours in Stratford Upon Avon all server to nurture wider understanding and a desire to learn more.
