Structure and routine is extremely important to children from an early age so the following pages will give you an insight into the daily routine, atmosphere, programme of activities and organisation for each year group at Pownall Hall School

Form One

Children in Form 1 are taught by the class teacher, supported by a full time teaching assistant. The majority of the teaching takes place in the classroom with the children working at tables. Adjoining the room are cloakroom facilities and a Pre-Prep library.

The core subjects are generally taught in the morning by the teacher whilst Music, Drama and P.E. are the responsibility of experienced specialists.

Each term the children are introduced to a new topic providing an exciting basis for further activities in History and Geography, and acquiring new skills in Art.

Every child reads daily with emphasis on fluency and use of phonic strategies.

Our day starts at 8.30am and ends at 3.45pm when children can participate in a variety of clubs. The children attend a daily assembly and enjoy their playtimes and lunchtimes playing in a secure fenced playground and field.

A ‘buddy system’ gives them the opportunity to meet and talk to the older children.

Homework is set each weekend and often consolidates the week’s work. Two reading books and a library book are taken home and we encourage parents to write comments in the reading diaries.

We are always happy to arrange meetings with parents as required. We hold formal Parents Consultation evenings twice a year and reports are written at the end of the Michaelmas and Trinity terms.
