Kindergarten
Every morning after a’settling in’ time , the children attend morning assembly with the rest of the preprep dept. This includes songs, stories and PHSE where the children are given guidance on how to behave towards others and develop a respect for their peers and different cultures and traditions.
In the classroom children are involved in many activities, including phonic work, reading, writing and number work. These all relate to the relevant areas of learning.
Activities are taught in small groups, so the children get plenty of attention. The ongoing provision in the classroom also includes science, investigation work, creative work and ICT. These activities are undertaken by rotation so that all are encouraged to share and ‘take their turn’.
Play is paramount at this stage, and different equipment is provided each day to promote varied and stimulating play. Each session ends with a story, and often poems and rhymes are recited and enjoyed.
During the week the children leave the classroom to attend music and PE lessons taught by our specialist teachers.
The morning break includes a drink and a fruit snack while lunches are healthy and cooked on the premises. Breaks and playtimes are spent within the secure playground and junior field areas, giving the children plenty of space and stimulus to enjoy themselves.
The day ends at 3.45pm when parents come to pick up their children from the classroom.
